One of the easiest ways to get into the Christmas spirit is to make Christmas cards. These days, you can find many homemade-looking cards in the stores, and even kits that will help you make some yourself, but why spend all that money when you can do one of these ideas with your kids and use things you may already have lying around?
The iconic symbol of Christmas, the tree, can also make a great and easy card to send out. Simply, trace the shape of a Christmas tree on two different pieces of green construction paper, cut them out, and glue them together at the very top. Have each of your children make ornaments with their fingerprints dipped in paint. Then, use scrap ribbon to make strands of garland for the tree. Make the tree stump out of brown construction paper or colour it on the tree in brown marker or using brown paint.
Santa Claus is another great icon for Christmas and cards, and this is a very simple salutation to make. You will need:
small paper doilie
a red piece of felt
black construction paper
Paint or markers
Have the kids colour the doilie in any colour for Santa’s face. Glue the cotton balls on the bottom, making the beard. Cut the felt into a triangle for hit hat, using the black construction paper to cut a black rim for his hat and two eyes. Write your message on the back.
The easiest way to make a snowman card is to use your computer to print off a snowman colouring sheet and cut out just the snowman. Trace it onto white paper and cut it out. Glue the sides of the snowmen together, to create a card. Cover the outside in cotton balls, then have kids colour the snowman’s face the way they want. You can also have them decorate the outside with ribbons, bows, buttons, and more.
One super simple card is a stocking card. You can cut a stocking out of construction paper and have kids decorate the stocking in any way they want. They can make it as unique with as many odds and ends objects as they can find. Then, glue the stocking on the front of a card made by folding construction paper or card-stock in half.
A great way to make a statement with a card is to make a 3-D card by gluing a piece of ribbon around a blank card, on the opening flap only. Tie it in a bow. Then, glue a gift tag, that you have personalized, to the bow or have it dangle form the bow with a small piece of string. This makes the card look like a gift and it is 3-D and interesting.
