Family Is What You Make It #StreamTeam

Families. We’ve all got one, but long gone are the days when The Cleavers were typical of the once traditional “nuclear” family.  Every modern family has its quirks, something that makes it unique and just when you think you know your family situation, it changes.  My family was always pretty traditional – mom & dad, brother and sister.  I also have a half brother though from my dad’s first marriage.  My husband, on the other hand grew up in Jamaica.  His mother left to come to Canada when he was 7, leaving him in the care of his Father and Grandmother.  He has 11 half brothers and half sisters.  A totally different family situation from what I grew up with and yet here we are building our own version of a family with our own modern twist.
Grace and Frankie, Netflix’s new funny and fearless original comedy featuring Jane Fonda, Lily Tomlin, Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, is a perfect example of how today’s families can shift, rearrange and blend in unexpected ways. When Grace and Frankie’s husbands leave them after 40 years of marriage—to be with each other—the women find themselves facing a change they never expected. They shift their perspective to get through it together, with the support of their new blended family and, of course, a sense of humour. For an exclusive sneak peek, check out the trailer below.

  4. I remember watching Party of Five when it was on. I think for some time it was on after Alley McBeal. Such wonderful shows. Now I am binge watching One Tree Hill since I never watched it. I’m also working my way through Gilmore Girls again. I think to date Lilyhammer and Peaky Blinders are my favorite Netflix shows. I wish they would promote them a little more.

  5. So how did your husband end up making it to Canada? Or did he come when he was legal age, after his Mom had been living here for a while?
