Kiss Bedtime Battles Goodnight #5MoreMinutes

When it comes time for bed my 1 year old is easy.  She usually suddenly stops running around like a whirling Dervish quite suddenly and tells me she is tired.  She then marches herself right up the stairs to her room.

My 3 year old, on the other hand is a master at delaying bedtime. Usually it starts with “I want to watch one more show/Play one more Game/Make one more something or other with the playdough.” She then generally moves on to slowly proceeding up the stairs but not without “forgetting” her bear which results in another journey back down the stairs.  Then she usually tries to jump around on her bed and run around her bedroom as I attempt to get pjs on her.  Then she will move on to insisting she does not in fact need to use the washroom and that she must brush her teeth all by herself.

Just when you think you are done, she insists she have a book read.  Then another.

Ooops.  She needs to use the washroom after all.

Oh!  Dying of thirst, must have a glass of water.

Can’t sleep without hugs and kisses from everyone including little sister who has been asleep for 45 minutes by this point.

Honestly, some nights it seems like a never ending process getting her into bed.  Getting my toddler to stay in bed is a whole other matter of course!

It certainly reminds me of the tactics I took way in the 1980s which means I know all the games.  It’s just that by the time bedtime rolls around, I’m feeling ready for bed too!

Turns out, the bedtime excuses are universal – more than 60% of parents around the globe are dealing with kids’ stall tactics before bed, adding up to nearly 20 minutes every single night. But guess what? It’s time to take back your night with a little help from Netflix.

Next time you find yourself in the bedtime battle, just tell your kids they can watch an ENTIRE show before bed.

Yep, you heard that right, and no, I haven’t lost my mind.

Netflix and DreamWorks Animation recently launched Dinotrux Favorites, an entire episode of the latest hit all in a nice little 5-minute package — letting your little negotiator think they’re getting away with the age-old ‘just five more minutes’ ploy. So let them high-five all the live-long-day knowing you just pulled the greatest parenting stunt of all time. In a mere 300-seconds, your kids will be speechless as they march themselves up to bed knowing they got exactly what they wanted. You: 1, Kids’ stalls: 0.
