Tips for the BEST Sugar Cookies

  • Use room temperature ingredients. This helps to ensure that the cookie dough comes together better.
  • Splurge on Pure vanilla extract. Good quality vanilla extract makes all the difference!
  • Sift the dry Ingredients. This makes the flour fluffier, resulting in a more tender cookie.
  • Chill the dough. Make the dough a day ahead of baking for best results, or chill at least 2 hours before baking.
  • Don’t Over-mix the dough. Over-mixing the dough can cause the gluten to over-activate, making the cookies dense. Mix until just combined.
  • Bake on Parchment paper. This makes it so much easier to remove the cookies from the pan.
  • Chill the cut out cookies. If your dough softens too much while cutting the cookies out, be sure to chill them for 20 minutes or so prior to baking.
  • Don’t over-bake. Remove the cookies BEFORE they start to brown. If they brown, the cookies are way too done.
