Ingredients & Substitutions for Christmas Old Fashioned

  • Bourbon: Use a good-quality bourbon for a smooth and rich flavor. Substitute with rye whiskey for a spicier profile or a non-alcoholic whiskey alternative for a mocktail version.
  • Bitters: Traditional Angostura bitters are ideal, but feel free to experiment with orange or ginger bitters to enhance the holiday flavours.
  • Gingerbread Coffee Syrup: Homemade or store-bought works well. If unavailable, use a spiced simple syrup or maple syrup with a pinch of ground ginger and cinnamon for a similar flavour.
  • Fresh Orange Juice: Adds brightness and balance. Substitute with tangerine juice for a slightly sweeter option or omit for a more traditional Old Fashioned.
  • Orange Wedge (Garnish): Provides a festive touch and a hint of citrus aroma. Use a lemon wedge or even a cinnamon stick as an alternative garnish.
