Tips for Cooking the Best Shrimp
- The best way to heat your skillet for cooking is to heat the dry pan first and when it is hot, add your oil. Don’t add your shrimp to a cold pan with cold oil.
- Cook your shrimp in a single layer
- Shrimp cooks fast, and nobody wants rubbery over-cooked shrimp. Shrimp that is soft, but has a C-shaped structure is just perfectly done.
- While I used large shrimp, you can use any size shrimp you would like, just be sure to adjust the cook time accordingly.
Homemade Cajun Seasoning Recipe
Mix together 2 teaspoons salt, 2 teaspoons garlic powder, 2 ½ teaspoons paprika, 1 teaspoon ground black pepper, 1 teaspoon onion powder, 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper, 1 ¼ teaspoons dried oregano, 1 teaspoon dried thyme, and ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes.

What to serve with Honey Cajun Shrimp?
We like to serve our honey cajun shrimp with plain old white rice but there are plenty of other options to make this a meal.
More sides to serve with shrimp:
- Rice – plain white rice, rice and peas, Spanish rice, etc…
- Serve with pasta: penne, fusilli, rotini or other pasta you like.
- Grits or Polenta
- Serve with veggies: Asparagus, broccoli, roasted peppers, corn on the cob, or green beans!
- Bread – Homemade crusty bread would be fantastic.
- Salad – Perfect paired with your favourite pasta salad, a green salad or a roasted corn salad.

How to Store Leftover Honey Cajun Shrimp
To store Honey Cajun Shrimp, place the cooked shrimp into a bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Store it in the fridge for up to 3 days.

About the Ingredients for Honey Cajun Shrimp
Shrimp – Large, raw shrimp. Make sure they are peeled and de-veined.
Cajun seasoning – You can buy your own or make your own homemade seasoning (recipe above.)
Salt – Makes all the flavours really shine.
Olive oil – You can substitute with any other neutral flavoured oil.
Butter – Adds loads of flavour to the sauce. Don’t substitute or you will regret it.
Honey – The honey is pretty essential to the flavour of the sauce so I would not substitute with anything else.
Lemon juice – 1 lemon should give about 1/4 cup of juice. You can also use store bought lemon juice.
