Can You Prepare this Smoothie Ahead of Time?

Yes! You can absolutely make this smoothie ahead of time. Pour your smoothie into ice cube trays and freeze for up to three months after preparation is complete. I normally transfer my frozen smoothies to freezer bags so that the cubes don’t get frostbitten.

Place the smoothie cubes in a mason jar and cover them with a lid once you’re ready to drink your smoothie. Allow 20-30 minutes for thawing at room temperature before serving.

You may also return your frozen smoothie cubes to the blender and add a little milk to blend.

Equipment Needed to Make Smoothies

All you need to make a smoothie is a good quality blender. If you are going to be making smoothies a lot, it is worth investing in a high speed blender, such as a Blendtec or Vitamix Blender.

I have been using a Blendtec blender for almost 10 years now, and it is used on a constant basis. I only recently had to replace the wildside jar, but otherwise it powers through anything I throw at it still!

Pumpkin Pie Smoothie Ingredients

About the Ingredients for Pumpkin Pie Smoothie

Banana – Use a frozen banana to make your smoothie thicker and more flavorful by reducing the amount of ice used. We simply add enough banana to sweeten the smoothie without giving it a banana taste. If you prefer, use an overripe avocado in its place. (The color will change.)

Pumpkin – Make sure you’re using real pumpkin puree, not pumpkin pie filling. You may also use homemade pumpkin puree if desired. Making your own pumpkin purée is a fantastic way to keep lots of it on hand. This is an excellent method to repurpose leftover pumpkin puree.

Yogurt – You may use either vanilla Greek yogurt or plain Greek yogurt. You may go without the honey with vanilla yogurt if you choose, but you’ll almost certainly need to add some sweetener if using plain yogurt.

Honey – To enhance the flavor, if desired, add honey or maple syrup or any other liquid sweetener of your choice.

Milk – For the most part, I prefer whole milk, but you may use skim milk or if you want a dairy-free or vegan pumpkin smoothie, use coconut milk, almond milk, soy milk etc…

Spice – Feel free to use your own favorite blend of spices, or use store-bought pumpkin spice mix. Feel free to substitute any with a sprinkle of cinnamon, a pinch of nutmeg, or a dash of cloves.

Ice – Ice cubes are used to not only cool the smoothie but thicken it as well. Use your judgment to get the desired texture.
